Elba, Ala. - An Elba man died today after falling through a skylight. According to Coffee County Coroner Robert Preachers, 58-year-old Curtis Brooks was working with Russell Construction Company demolishing a building on Reese Avenue when the accident occurred.
Brooks's body was taken to Montgomery for an autopsy and toxicology report. The examination found that intoxication was not a factor in Brooks's death. The likely cause of the fall was a chronic heart condition, for which Brooks had enrolled in disability benefits just a week before. Brooks and his wife had planned on a heart catheter surgery later this month.
