The Dothan Fire Department is trying to help conquer childhood cancer by raising money and awareness.

Two children in fire department family currently have cancer and the department wants to do something about it. They will be selling "Going for the Gold” t-shirts and proceeds will go to the Developmental Therapeutic Program at Children's Hospital.

They'll also be having a Going for the Gold event September 27th. There will be entertainment, food, and activities like a burpee challenge and 5k run.

To sign up for the event or buy a t-shirt you can visit the Dothan Fire Department at 600 Columbia Highway.

“I hope that everybody in the wiregrass wears a Go for the Gold ribbon t-shirt every Friday in the month of September to honor those who have dealt with childhood cancer in the past, those that are currently dealing with and to help us raise funds,” said Chris Etheredge, Fire Battalion Chief.

The fire department is also looking for sponsors to help with the event.
