A Dothan man is facing numerous charges related to an explosion earlier this week that left a man with serious injuries.
Sylvio Joseph King, 44, of Sixth Avenue in Dothan has been charged with attempted murder, criminal mischief, breaking and entering into a vehicle and possession/transport of a bio weapon.
A truck driven by 43-year-old Terry Daniel Brooks suffered extensive damage after an explosion inside the vehicle earlier this week. It happened on South Park Avenue.
Later in the day another vehicle was checked at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. While this was being done, an area around the hospital was blocked off as a safety precaution. Police told WDHN that nothing was found but the check was related to the truck explosion earlier that day.
Late Thursday, police acted on a tip that led to King's arrest at his apartment on Sixth Avenue. The situation lasted most of the night and early into Friday before King was arrested.
Apartments in the complex King was living in were evacuated as a safety precaution and the resident were taken to another apartment complex where they spent the night. We are told the Red Cross assisted in the relocation of the residents.
Numerous agencies have assisted in the investigation including the ATF, Dothan Police Department, Houston County Sheriff's Office and Houston County EMA.
A press conference was scheduled for earlier today but has since been delayed until Monday. Facebook posts by King indicated that he he shared a WDHN post about news going on in the city.
He also posted "Watching the news lately for around Dothan, and I swear people have lost their minds, bombs, shootings, hit and runs. Is it me or does the crime rate seem to be going up exponentially.."
