BREAKING: Student Hit By Dothan City Schools Bus

DOTHAN - Dothan Police are investigating what was dispatched Thursday afternoon as a student hit by a school bus.

The bus involved is Dothan City Schools bus number 2.

Initial reports stated the student was dragged by the bus, and was taken to Southeast Alabama Medical Center by the student's grandmother.

Dothan Police tracked the bus down on Selma Street after the incident that originally occurred on Mendheim Drive.

Dothan Police Chief Steven Parrish said the student is a 14-year-old 8th grader at Beverlye Middle School.

Parrish said that after the student got off of the bus, he grabbed ahold of a window and was dangling from it.

When the bus picked up speed, the student lost his grip and fell.  It is unclear if the student was run over or not.

The bus was parked at Dothan High School where police interviewed students on board and the driver that was involved.

The student is receiving medical care at SAMC and representatives from the Dothan City School System are there.

Parrish said the investigation is ongoing and WDHN News will update when more information is available.
