Wallace Food Drive

At first glance, it looked like a Halloween Party. But students between classes at Wallace Community College-Dothan had a more important purpose – collecting canned goods to help the Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank feed those in need of assistance during the holidays. The event, sponsored by the WCC Student Government Association, was held at the annual Fall Festival. The event showcases various clubs and student groups, and the SGA table was especially busy with students bringing their canned goods to help with the cause. The SGA collected 2,497 lbs. of food, enough for 1,951 meals. “It was so gratifying to see the response from the students,” said Dawn Bennett, SGA co-vice president. “The community was supportive as well. We even had parents of students bring food because their children were in class or in dual enrollment classes at their high school.” WOOF-FM set up a remote and helped broadcast the cause to the area.
